Building a New Home for Islam in Madison
Our Project for the Future of the Community
The Masjid Us-Sunnah, located in the southwest side of Madison Wisconsin, was purchased in September 1995 and has been a home to Muslims for 20 years. Over the years the community has grown significantly and the small building has long since been filled to capacity. Even after expanding services to hold two Jumuah prayers every week, we still find ourselves pressed hard into corners and expanding into hallways, offices, and the kitchen in order to find room to pray. Our community finds itself strangled with no room to grow or even meet our current needs
The time to move on has come.
In January of 2012 a 3.5 acre parcel of land was purchased on Madison’s west side at 6510 Watts Rd. This land is minutes away from several large apartment complexes, shopping centers, and a central highway that connects much of Madison together.
Thanks to the hard work of Daar Engineering we were able to complete the site plan and civil engineering documents in order to obtain the land development permit in January 2018.
We have contracted with Tri-North Builders of Fitchburg, WI to complete the architectural drawings required for the project and obtained the final building permit for the project in January 2018.
The new location will have over 100 parking spaces, grassy play area in the back corner for children and activities, and space for two planned expansions: a gymnasium with classrooms, and an office space/strip mall to generate revenue.
The main facility currently under construction will contain three floors. A main floor with offices and brothers’ prayer area, a second floor with sisters’ prayer area, and a basement designed as an event hall.
MAIN FLOOR
The main floor, as shown below, contains an exterior courtyard, four office spaces, two separate bathroom and wudu areas, a community gathering area, and the main mens’ prayer area.
SECOND FLOOR
The second floor contains the main womens’ prayer area with additional bathroom/wudu room, storage room for coats and shoes, and a separate area for children tucked in the corner to reduce distracting those in prayer.
BASEMENT LEVEL
The basement level was designed with community activities in mind and includes a very large event hall with a warming kitchen in the back, bathrooms, and a folding partition to divide the hall in two.
